Sean Cockburn Director - Tax Advisory
Sean is a Director in the firm’s Private Client tax advisory team providing advice on a wide range of tax issues. Sean works with families, entrepreneurs, trustees and other stakeholders to ensure their tax affairs are structured in a way that meets their objectives.
Sean’s experience has given him a comprehensive understanding of Trusts, Family Investment Companies and other estate planning vehicles. Many of Sean’s clients have international connections and Sean regularly works with Mazars colleagues and other advisers overseas to make sure that proposals in one country do not have unintended consequences in another and that filings in each jurisdiction reflect the correct taxing rights and relief in respect of double taxation.
Sean is a Chartered Tax Adviser, Tax Technicians and Trust and Estate Practitioner having won the national Outstanding Student of the Year Award when qualifying for the latter (some years ago!). Sean is an active member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation where he now holds the position of Chair of the Scotland Hub.
Tax is a constantly evolving area and advisers need to be alert to changes in legislation and new obligations. Sean believes that the global trend towards transparency and international mobility will continue and expects taxation to become even more complicated and compliance even more onerous in future. To manage this, Sean has created a team and international network that enable him to advise on the issues and obligations facing clients with multi-jurisdictional interests.
