Richard Tidball

Richard is a Tax Director and provides leading tax advice, predominantly to owner managed businesses and their shareholders on a range of tax issues including, acquisitions and exit planning, corporate reorganisations, R&D tax relief, capital allowances, ATED, and wider corporation tax reporting.

Experience

Having worked for the firm since joining as a graduate trainee in 2013, Richard has been involved in a variety of transactions and claims for tax relief. He now works with a variety of clients and has led advice supporting new start-ups. This involved the funding for their innovation, through exit planning for successful and established businesses, including through trade sales, management buy-outs, sales to employee ownership trusts, and IPOs.

His main areas of focus are on realising value through capital events, alongside the taxation of intellectual property such as R&D tax relief and patent box. Richard’s approach is to always provide detailed and commercial advice to clients that is bespoke to them and their circumstances.

Work Highlights

  • Richard led pre-sale reorganisation planning and provided critical transaction tax support to a UK video game business, prior to its sale to a US digital technology leader.
  • Richard has provided complex tax advice on the transfer of a £100m property portfolio, held by a Will Trust, into a complex corporate structure comprising a variety of family investment companies to meet beneficiaries' personal goals
  • Richard has advised on several complex intellectual property tax relief claims, including R&D tax relief, patent box, and corporation tax elections on corporate intangibles. Highlights include claims for businesses in manufacturing and engineering, construction and software development.
  • Richard was a contributing author to Research and Development with Patent Box (Third Edition) published by Claritax Books.
