Sean is a Chartered Tax Advisor. He spent 18 years working in the ‘Big 4’ before joining Mazars in 2014. Prior to moving into practice he worked for HMRC in central London as a Senior VAT Inspector. Sean studied law for several years. His focus is tax risk management and cost reduction.
Sean has worked with commercial clients (including global brands in the automotive, aviation, manufacturing and advertising sectors) and the full spectrum of public and not for profit bodies including government departments, public corporations, government agencies, local authorities, social landlords, education providers and charities. This background provides a unique blend of experience that combines commerciality with sensitivity surrounding different client needs and agendas.
Sean has acted as lead tax advisor on a number of high profile infrastructure projects, including several flagship government projects (usually announced by the Chancellor in budget speeches). His work balances the needs of the different stakeholders, manages reputational and tax risk and the development of robust strategies that produce multi million pound efficiencies, while ensuring they are politically acceptable.
He has worked with over 30 local authorities and secured refunds in excess of £100m. This includes County Councils, London Boroughs, Unitary, District and Borough Councils. He has provided advice in respect of third party developments, transactional advice and contractual matters, as well as in house training.
Sean has achieved significant refunds for a wide range of clients. This included a £7m refund for a NDPB with annual income of £15m. He has acted in high profile litigation, dealt directly with HMRC policy, specialists and leading tax QCs.
Sean is part of Mazars Indirect Tax Leadership Team and draws on specialist support from across the firm.
