Neil Rolfe

Neil heads the Insurance Tax practice and has over 25 years of experience in practice and in-house. Neil specialises in global taxation for insurance groups, the taxation of long-term and Lloyd's businesses in the UK and overseas.

Neil also acts for both clients and Swiss Re, in the acquisition of large blocks of insurance business or insurance groups.

Experience

Before joining Mazars as Head of Insurance Tax, Neil worked in many firms including Coopers & Lybrand, PwC and EY. Neil was an Associate Partner at EY before working as Head of Tax, Head of Finance and M&A, and CFO at Swiss Re’s three reinsurance pooling vehicles.

Neil co-leads the Mazars Pillar 2 - GloBE response developing the Global Mazars proposition to help clients across all sectors. Neil focuses his delivery on insurance clients. Neil is also involved in discussions around Bermuda Corporate Income Tax, the Bermuda response to Pillar 2 - GloBE.

Neil’s work spans the insurance market, life insurance groups, and general and reinsurance groups where he advises on reinsurance structuring, transfer pricing, acquisitions and disposals of regulated business, and broker groups. Neil leads our insurance compliance and tax audit practice.

Work Highlights

  • Neil's team carries out audit work for some very significant insurance clients. A strong exposure to large clients has led to the forming of a great training ground for the staff in the basics of insurance and has created a stronger and more proficient team. Neil's team have also won several large insurance audits with significant tax input and continues to build on the team's strong base.
  • Neil is proud to have been instrumental in starting and continuing to co-lead the Mazars Pillar 2 GloBE practice. As part of Neil's role, he has had the opportunity to work alongside talented Mazars staff around the globe to help build pragmatic and cost-effective solutions for clients.
  • For a growing practice, Neil's team has a strong international network and now consists of two managers in the team with recent international secondment experience in Canada and Bermuda. This work is well-timed as the team's return to Bermuda will build upon the new Bermuda Corporate Income Tax and Pullar 2 - GloBE.
