2012 was the year when the UK was initially believed to have entered a double-dip recession, mainly driven by a fall in construction and manufacturing output. Particularly strong fluctuations in commodity prices were also experienced and, as a consequence, costs increased and revenues were adversely affected.
Our survey identified that some challenges remain such as the state of the construction sector and the economy in general, pressure on prices through local authority cuts, and high commodity prices. However, the repositioning of the sector should fuel growth going forward - mainly via consolidation in the sector, the offering of international and integrated solutions, and the construction of more Energy-from-Waste facilities combined with innovative and more sustainable solutions (bio-fuel, anaerobic digestion plants, etc) supported by government-led incentives.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank respondents for the time and thought they devoted to completing this survey. We hope you find the report interesting and informative.
