Mazars gears up for public sector audit growth in 2018

6 March 2018
Ahead of the new financial year Mazars, the international accountancy and advisory firm, is preparing for 94 local government external audit appointments in England.

Following a tender process conducted by Public Sector Audit Appointments (PSAA) in 2017, Mazars is to provide external audit services for 18% of English local authorities: a threefold increase over the previous year. The contracts commence at the beginning of the financial year, 1st April 2018, effective for five years.

The external audit appointments include councils, combined authorities, police forces, fire authorities and local government pension funds. Mazars has a strong track record of auditing local authorities in the North East and Yorkshire since 2012. The new PSAA appointments will see the firm grow its presence in these two regions, while significantly increasing its national reach with new external audit appointments in the North West, East Midlands and London. Notably, Mazars has been appointed to all 13 local authority audits in Greater Manchester.

Gareth Davies, Head of Public Services at Mazars, commented: “We are delighted to have secured this extensive contract for local government audit across the UK. Such a result through a competitive procurement process is a testament to the hard work of our team over the last few years. We look forward to continuing to support local authorities and tax payers with high quality public audit”.
