Mazars partner wins Women in the City award of achievement

Fiona Hotston Moore, partner and board member at international accountancy firm Mazars has won the accountancy category in the inaugural Women in the City Awards of Achievement. She has also been short listed for the overall award, which will be announced at the Women in the City Lunch and Award ceremony on 30 November.

Fiona joined Mazars in April following the merger with MRI Moores Rowland, where at the time she was the only female managing partner within the Top 50 UK accountancy firms. In addition to her board responsibilities, she heads up Mazars’ media practice – a sector she has specialised in for the last fiveyears. She is also lead partner for the firm’s owner-managed business service line across the London region.

Fiona started her working life as a dietician having studied Nutrition at university, and then chose a career change to study accountancy. After qualifying with a Big Four firm, Fiona had a clear vision of how she wanted her to career to take shape: working at the coal face in two smaller practices in Hertfordshire meant that she was a partner by 30. The move to London and Moores Rowland in 1998 brought a different dynamic and she found herself thriving amongst the new challenges. She succeeded in working with the partner team to transform the profitability of the firm whilst building its reputation as a leading player in its niche areas before leading the practice into the merger with Mazars.

Married with two young children, she is committed to achieving a balance between her work and home life and enjoys walking with her Labrador dogs and family in her home county of Suffolk. She is an avid collector of paperweights and antique clocks.

Commenting on her achievement Fiona said: “It’s incredibly exciting to have won the accountancy category – there were some really worthy contenders. It’s the icing on the cake to a great year.”

She continued: “I am a great believer in personal responsibility – you get out what you put in – but I also feel it’s really important for women in this profession to support and learn from one another. We have some great female talent at Mazars and I look forward to working with them and supporting them as their careers develop.”

Mazars Senior Partner David Evans said: “Undoubtedly Fiona’s talent and drive were key components in our decision to merge the two businesses. We are very proud that she has won this award and I am sure that she will continue to build on this and inspire colleagues, male and female alike, in the coming years”.
