Narrative reporting

In addition to the financial statements, the amount and importance of information in other parts of the annual report has grown substantially in recent years.

This is not just the case for listed and AIM companies. Legal requirements concerning the enhanced business review are applicable to all but small companies. Directors are required to provide a balanced and comprehensive analysis of the development and performance of the business during the year and its year-end position. Where necessary, this should include financial Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and, if appropriate, other KPIs as well. Principal risks and uncertainties also need to be disclosed.

Mazars helps clients prepare their business reviews. We also help fully listed and AIM companies review their narrative reporting to ensure they communicate effectively with shareholders and other key readers of the annual report, especially potential investors. Boards are far more likely to have their full potential recognised by the capital markets if they demonstrate a clear vision, a roadmap to achieve their goals and a focused management team committed to delivering sustainable value for their shareholders and other stakeholders.
