Rebecca Scott joined the Mazars Luton office as a trainee in 2001 after completing a Law degree and now works as a Senior Manager, Governance & Risk Management. She charts her career so far.
How did you find out about Mazars?
I was at a rugby match in Bedford and I saw a board with Mazars on it. I was applying to lots of chartered accountancy firms and thought I’d apply to them. I had an informal interview and a structured one. After they interviewed me they suggested that this office would suit me best. They were right and I’m still here!
How was your first day?
I remember we finished the day with an IT talk, then all the managers and partners came down and we went out for a couple of drinks. They couldn’t have been more helpful, actually. As I was new in the area they even found me a house.
The exams - honest truth?
I found them a bit more like A levels than my degree. And I really worked hard for my A levels. The difficulty is mixing work and study, but I think more students are getting used to that. More students have to work through university. I did.
So now you've qualified. How did you find the change from trainee to manager?
The role that I’ve moved into didn’t really exist before – lots of what we’re doing is very new. When you’re doing something for the first time, you often need support and that’s the benefit of working here. It’s informal but very supportive. I don’t feel scared to ring up the partner in charge, even if I have a stupid question.
