Role
To ensure high standards of audit and accountancy services to clients are maintained and developed. Provide an internal link between staff and managers/ partners.
Responsibilities
Client relations & quality service
- Communicates effectively with client staff at all levels, including senior level, and is able to direct other team members to appropriate client staff.
- Prioritises work.
- Keeps managers and partners informed of assignment progress and any problems arising.
- Is accepted by clients as a business advisor through developing a broad approach and identifying and resolving needs the client may not have recognised.
- Supports and develops the use of new methods and service/product offerings to clients.
- Encourages flexibility and innovation within the team and is able to identify and address barriers to change.
- Has an active involvement in developing the departmental and office strategy in order to grow the practice.
- Deal courteously and promptly with client queries.
People
Establishes clarity and a sense of direction for the team through:
- Developing stretching and developmental objectives for staff as part of the appraisal process.
- Completing staff assignment appraisals by setting objectives for trainees ahead of the work and reviewing actual performance on a timely basis after the conclusion of the work.
- Demonstrating a commitment to working with staff on an ongoing basis to review progress and provide feedback. This includes giving developmental feedback to high performers and providing coaching for those requiring further skills development.
- Influences the allocation of staff for suitable assignments within their capability while allowing them to broaden their experience in various sections
Technical
Ensures high technical standards are maintained by:
- Conducting and completing a review of files to manager level on small sized assignments.
- Conducting and completing a review of files to senior level on medium or large assignments or as agreed in advance.
- Keeping up to date technically through private reading and attendance on appropriate courses.
- Ensuring that audits are carried out in accordance with the firms’ procedures using the ‘+Vantage’ software.
- Following firm’s procedures and protocols and ensuring that those under supervision do the same.
- Setting and completing work within budgeted time. Comparing actual against budget.
Business Development
- Possible involvement in the presentation of proposals for new work.
- Participates in firm and office wide initiatives.
- Is aware of and utilises cross-selling opportunities and leads others in building their business development skills.
- Identifies and follows up on useful strategies for building market presence.
- Promotes the firm by maintaining professional image.
Key competencies / requirements
- Qualified ACA or ACCA
- Experience of auditing a broad range of medium size and above OMBs to at least senior level. Experience of groups would be a benefit.
