Greg Simpson

Greg leads the UK Banking and Capital Markets group. He is a member of the UK audit executive committee and specialises in the audits of banks and similar financial institutions ranging from large international investment banks to domestic building societies. He is a board member of the FS Faculty of the ICAEW and represents Mazars at the Policy & Reputation Group, a forum of the largest UK audit firms.

Experience 

Greg has provided Audit & assurance services to the banking sector for over 25 years and is the lead partner for some of our largest audits in the Financial Services sector. He provides audit and advisory services to a wide range of financial services firms including retail, corporate and investment banks, fund and asset management firms, stockbrokers, leasing and speciality finance companies.

He has lived and worked overseas and provides broad and varied perspectives to both clients and our international financial services community.
Greg’s clients operate in specialised and highly regulated industries and having experienced several banking and economic crises, his insights are highly appreciated and valued by Board and senior management alike. He is a technical specialist and has provided training and education on banking topics such as IFRS 9 to clients and regulators in the UK and across Europe.

Work Highlights 

Greg is a strong advocate for audit reform, and for the last nine years has led the development of Mazars' UK banking audit practice which is now recognised as a credible alternative to the Big Four - an accolade recognised with the firm winning the City A.M. Accountancy Firm of the Year award in 2019.

Greg regularly contributes to industry forums representing Mazars at the ICAEW, Bank of England, PRA and the FRC. In 2023 he joined the PRG to contribute to the understanding of evolving public interest issues relevant to the accountancy profession.
