Three of those promoted are specialists in insurance, reflecting the firm’s long history in the sector and its commitment to maintaining and building on this heritage. The other promotions reflect Mazars’ strength in advising owner-managed businesses and the expertise within its wholly-owned subsidiary Mazars Financial Planning Ltd. The addition of Vinny McCullagh, from outside of the firm, will further bolster its successful tax practice.
The promotions come as Mazars enters its new financial year. Mazars’ new Senior Partner Phil Verity, who has now officially taken up the role following last month’s announcement that he would take over from David Evans, says: “Our people are the lifeblood of our firm and we continually strive to create an environment in which talented, high calibre individuals have the chance to reach their potential and provide the exceptional service our clients have come to expect. I’m proud to welcome them to the partnership and wish them well with their new responsibilities.”
Gareth joined the firm as an ACA trainee in September 2000 from Loughborough University. He is currently an audit and business advisory director working in the owner-managed business market with a specialist interest in the hospitality and leisure sector. He is a member of the ICAEW Tourism and Hospitality SIG Committee and the Hospitality Professionals Association (HOSPA) Finance Committee. He is based in London.
Advisory partner Lee Brook says: “Gareth has always displayed exceptional talent and highest level of dedication to his clients and to his team. In recent years he has built up an impressive portfolio of clients and contacts in the hospitality and leisure sector, forging an impressive path in what was a relatively young practice area for the firm.”
Sam joined the firm as a graduate in 1996. After qualifying, he worked as an investment manager at Kleinwort Benson before returning to practice and Mazars in 2003. Based in London, he has 14 years’ experience in financial services and specialises in the delivery of assurance and advisory services to the insurance sector.
Sam works in the Governance , Risk and Internal Control (GRIC) team, focusing on providing services to the insurance industry. He has over 11 years of experience working in the insurance industry which has included 10 years within large firms and a year in industry prior to joining Mazars earlier this year. He works out of the London office.
Omar works in the actuarial team and provides risk and capital management consulting services to the insurance sector, driven by Solvency II regulations. He has spent two decades in the industry and in recent years has supported some of the largest global insurers with their Solvency II programme plans. He joined the firm last year and is based in the London office.
Commenting on the three promotions in his team, head of insurance Craig Scarr says: “Mazars has a 100-year plus history in the sector and Sam, Sam and Omar represent the next generation of talent that will help take the practice forward and maintain our position as one of the pre-eminent advisors to the Lloyd’s market, insurance brokers and insurance companies.”
Carl is a Chartered Financial Planner and Fellow of the Personal Finance Society. Previously the firm’s Director of Financial Planning in the North, he primarily looks after clients in and around Yorkshire. Based in the Leeds office, he will ultimately be responsible for Mazars Financial Planning’s business plan in the region. He joined the firm in 2011, having previously been the head of Kleinwort Benson’s Leeds office.
Ian Pickford, Mazars partner and Advisory Services Director of Mazars Financial Planning Ltd. comments: “Carl is outstanding in his field and has already made a significant impact in developing our business in the Yorkshire region. I have no doubt that he will continue to exceed expectations from both the perspective of his clients and the business.”
Vincent, known as Vinny, has over 12 years’ experience in VAT and was previously a Director with Deloitte Ireland having worked extensively in the UK and Ireland. His particular areas of expertise lies in Financial Services, VAT issues facing the multi- national and the indigenous PLC sector, and VAT on property. He has also written and presented widely on indirect tax. Vinny says he chose to join Mazars because of its integrated international partnership, which he believes puts it in a very strong position to serve clients across all sectors, from the very largest multi-nationals to ambitious start-ups in the owner managed business sector.
Mazars’ National Head of Tax Tim Davies says: “I’m delighted to welcome Vinny on board. He has accomplished a great deal in his career to date and I have no doubt he will prove a major asset to the team, and to our clients.”
