Starting in Glasgow on Monday 11 September, where the first team will cycle the beginning leg of the 1,000 mile journey across the UK, the relay will pass there areas in which every one of our permanently staffed offices are based, before the final team crosses the finish line in London on Friday 22 September (See routemap below). From cycling in the relay to volunteering and fundraising, Mazars staff from across the country will be involved in numerous ways.
By joining forces across the UK, we can support Sense to reach their goal of helping everyone to achieve their full potential, irrespective of the challenges they face.
We will be raising money for Sense who are a leading national charity that support people who are deafblind, have sensory impairments or complex needs to enjoy more independent lives.
There are approximately 358,000 people in the UK who are deafblind, and this figure is estimated to rise to half a million by 2030.
Since the charity’s founding in 1955, Sense have developed specialist skills in supporting people to communicate, express themselves and grow in independence. They provide advice and support to people of all ages, as well as their families and carers.
The charity builds its services around the wishes and needs of the individual, tailoring the support provided to each person so that they can live as independently as possible and participate fully in the lives of their local communities.
The services that they offer range from organising summer holidays and short breaks, to helping people with their home lives and running community resource centres. Sense have also setup a college which has a specially designed curriculum for young people and adults, and they have a network of charity shops located around the UK. You can find out more about the work that they do by visiting their website.
