Insurer briefing: Board Effectiveness

Following Sir David Walker's review of the financial crisis, the FSA is taking a sharply increased interest in board and wider governance issues during ARROW visits and is taking steps designed to strengthen effective corporate governance and risk management rules effective from 1 May 2011.

At this breakfast briefing, Anthony Carey, a Chartered Director as well as a Chartered Accountant, and a specialist in board effectiveness issues, will look at the practical ways to enhance effectiveness and have regard to the FSA's new approach. The issues to be discussed will include:

  • Board evaluations
  • Risk management
  • Ensuring challenge in the boardroom
  • The board's key roles
  • New Significant Influence Functions and approval procedures
  • Culture and good regulatory outcomes.
